5 day coach holiday to Nottinghamshire, staying at Warner Thoresby Hall Country Hotel
Day 1
We depart for Nottinghamshire, making comfort stops en-route including a suitable lunch stop. Arriving at Thoresby Hall this afternoon.
Day 2
Today we visit Belvoir Castle, a historic gem in the heart of England.
Belvoir Castle’s history dates back to the eleventh century. It is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland, where the family have lived in an unbroken line for almost a thousand years. Crowning a hill, the Castle’s turrets and towers rise over the Vale of Belvoir like an illustration in a romantic fairytale. The name Belvoir - meaning ‘beautiful view’ in French, and pronounced today as ‘beaver’ - dates back to Norman times. Four castles have stood on this spot since 1067, and it’s a pretty perfect location for a fortified castle. Looking over the battlements from the North Terrace of the current Castle, you can see for miles over the counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. And on a clear day, you can even see Lincoln Cathedral, some 30 miles to the North East.
Day 3
Today we visit the National Memorial Arboretum, a British site of national remembrance at Alrewas, near Lichfield, Staffordshire. Its objective is to honour the fallen, recognise service and sacrifice, and foster pride in the British Armed Forces and civilian community.
Explore the 150-acre site which is home to over 380 thought-provoking memorials covering both military and civilian associations, along with tributes for individuals. Rich in design and symbolism, and sympathetic to the lush gardens they inhabit, the memorials and their stories are fascinating. We have booked the group onto the Arboretum's Land Train, complete with pre-recorded commentary, it is the perfect way to discover the stories behind many of the fascinating memorials, sit back, relax and enjoy the land train tour which takes about 50 minutes. As well as the memorials, the Arboretum features around 30,000 trees and is home to a variety of flora and fauna making it a haven for nature lovers to enjoy.
Day 4
Today we have a day at leisure to enjoy the activities and facilities at the hotel.
Day 5
We depart the hotel after breakfast, making our way home with comfort stops and a lunch stop en-route. Arriving back in East Sussex this afternoon.
